Channing Frye

Founder/Owner, Chosen Family Wines

World Champion and NBA draft lottery pick, Channing Frye, had an illustrious 14-year career in the National Basketball Association. He was drafted 8th overall by the New York Knicks, where he earned a spot on the NBA Rookie First Team. After a brief stint with the Portland Trail Blazers, Frye joined the Phoenix Suns where he ranked top 5 in three-point field goals made before making his way to Cleveland where his shooting and leadership were integral factors to the Cavaliers’ Championship run.

Beyond the basketball court, Frye has been an inspirational personality who always finds ways to give back to the community, from hosting celebrity charity events, to visiting and donating to hospitals. In 2015, Frye and former teammate and close friend, Richard Jefferson, co-founded the first athlete-led podcast with Allie Clifton. Road Trippin’ is a staple in the sports podcast community as they continue to highlight amazing stories through their platform. Additionally, Frye is a lead analyst of the Turner Sports family. He has his own show, Handles, on NBATV, and is co-host of Emmy-nominated, NBATwitterLive.

In his home office he has his championship ring, and right next to it are his first Chardonnay and Pinot Noir Bottles – the three things outside of his family that he is most proud of.

Frye was first introduced to Oregon wines in 2007 while playing for the Portland Trail Blazers. As he continued his wine journey, he noticed that wine was taking up a lot of his life in a great way, especially through the conversations it opened up and the way it connected people. In 2020, he launched Chosen Family Wines and then partnered with Kevin Love, his former teammate and a close friend, along with Jacob Gray, and Chase Renton.

Today they partner with celebrated winemakers as well as the best up-and-coming winemakers in the world to share wines that tell the story of their renowned terroir while providing unparalleled quality and value. In addition, Channing Frye and Chosen Family Wines champion diversity and inclusion in the wine industry through events and collaborations that benefit nonprofits The Roots Fund and Our Legacy Harvested, as well as their participation in the One Barrel Challenge, a collective dream of making Oregon’s wine industry more accessible and inclusive, regardless of color, class or creed.
