Chris Dunaway

Chris Dunaway grew up in Henderson, Kentucky, where he was introduced to the joy and conviviality of the table through frequent gatherings with his extended family, often accompanied by wines produced from the grapevines in his grandfather and uncle’s home gardens. After formative stints at Amanti Vino, Corkbuzz Wine Studio, and Bar Boulud in the greater New York City area, Chris relocated to Aspen in 2015 to assume the role of Head Sommelier at The Little Nell, and has since 2019 led the hotel’s wine program as Wine Director.

In 2024, Chris was recognized as Colorado’s Michelin Sommelier of the Year. Under his guidance, the program has earned a James Beard nomination for Most Outstanding Wine Program (2022), the World of Fine Wine Wine List of the Year (2025), Best Hotel Wine List in the World for three consecutive years (2023–2025), and recognition by the Bureau de Champagne as one of the Top 10 Bars & Restaurants in North America for Enjoying Champagne (2025). The program has also received Wine Spectator’s coveted Grand Award every year under his tenure — part of an unbroken streak the hotel has maintained since 1997.

Today, Chris takes immense pride in enriching life through wine, whether through deeply personalized guest experiences, front-of-house mentorship, or his enduring passion for bringing people together over the magic of food and wine shared at the table.
