Junaid Shams is Chief Operating Officer of American Express Global Dining and Head of Rooam, where he leads digital product strategy and business development to deliver integrated, scalable solutions for restaurants, diners, and Card Members. In this role, he is responsible for advancing the Global Dining product roadmap and aligning teams and partnerships to drive innovation and long-term growth.

Junaid also leads Rooam, a dining technology company he founded in 2014, which was acquired by American Express in 2024. Rooam provides mobile payments and ordering technology and integrates with core restaurant systems, supporting operators with more seamless operations and customer engagement. He is focused on bringing together the Resy, Tock, and Rooam products and expanding capabilities that support American Express’ digital dining platform.

Junaid’s entrepreneurial background includes co-founding GSM Nation, a premium online phone retailer and wholesaler. He has received national recognition for his entrepreneurial work, including Bloomberg Businessweek’s “Top 25 Entrepreneurs Under 25” and Under30CEO’s “Top 30 Most Influential Entrepreneurs Under 30.” Junaid earned his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in 2012 and a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health from The George Washington University in 2008.
